Hugh S. Smith, Ph.D. & Associates, P.C., provides a planned, sequential training program that contributes to ongoing excellence in the field of psychology. Based on a “scientist-practitioner” model we strive to deliver training based upon sound research, outcome measures and use of accepted, normed assessment tools. We provide an organized training program in clinical interviewing and psychological assessment that follows a sequence of training experiences, each building upon previously acquired skills.
Our primary aim is to afford the trainee a wide array of clinical experiences and opportunities for in-depth learning and professional development in psychological assessment, the cornerstone of our organization. The practicum student will be involved in all phases of the psychological assessment process, including clinical interviewing, administration of testing batteries (assessing cognitive functioning, academic achievement, executive functioning, processing, and social/behavioral functioning), personality and projective assessment, and production of the written report.
We strive to embrace the different areas of strength and interest of each practicum student, and promote flexibility in the training program. Practicum students will be guided in maintaining a high level of professionalism and ethics in services provided. Didactic trainings are provided in assessment measures, areas of clinical competency, cultural awareness and ethical concerns, as well as additional training as identified by supervisors.
Hugh S. Smith, Ph.D. & Associates, P.C. will also be offering practicum training experiences in psychotherapy in the near future!
While the bulk of the practicum training experiences, including supervision and didactic seminars, occur at the central office of Hugh S. Smith Ph.D. & Associates, P.C., in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, there is opportunity for gaining additional experiences through area agencies such as mental health providers and Juvenile Justice System. While seeing clients at these sites, practicum students remain under the supervision of licensed psychologists at Hugh S. Smith Ph.D. & Associates, P.C.
